Maybe this explains, in part, why so many religious people say that atheism is a belief system/paradigm? I hear every now and then that atheists believe in science, that Science is their God.
No, not a common name anywhere really. My great great grandfather, I think, came here from Madeira around the turn of the previous century. There are only a couple branches of families here with that name…

Religious people can be very dangerous. Killing heretics, for instance.
